vacation

Just 5 more get-ups and we leave for our trip to Arizona. We are hoping to drive to Sioux City the first day. If we still can go farther we will but right now the plan is Sioux City. Probably by the third or fourth day of travel we will drive less miles. But we'll see. Just so anxious to get going. Today I dug out my summer clothes and am washing them and this weekend I will be packing. I am working Mon. and Tues, so not much time to pack then. Just last minute details. But the way I look at it...if I forget it then I can buy it on the way.
I have to go into the city today and look for a kennel for my cat. She is not a happy cat in the car.
I took her for her shot on Wed. and this very laid back, calm, scratch my belly cat turned in Cat Dracula. She hissed at everything and everybody at the vet's. Now I am worried how she will be at the kennel.
Oh, well, I am sure they have dealt with worse. But still...

trip

Man, what a roller coaster. The guy that was going to sub for my husband while we were on our trip just up and quit. What a jerk!!  He just up and quit... left us in the lurch and the school division also. He had a charter for tomorrow, now they are stuck. So we phoned a lady that is subbing for the bus drivers. she said she would do the run but this morning sent hubby an e-mail saying she doesn't know if she can do all those days. My poor hubby was fuming. However, the good news is that I talked to hubby today from my work and he said not to worry because his boss said that we were still going on our trip no matter what. Whew!! Now I can repack again.

freezing days

It has been extremely cold this last week. I worked Mon.-Thurs..and wondered every day on the way to work why I was subbing. I am retired and don't have to go but can't refuse the girls when they ask me to sub for them. Also, we are going to Mesa,....yes you read right...Mesa, Arizona, and we leave Feb.2. for 2 whole weeks. I am so pumped!! Every day hubby and I are ready to leave today. We are driving, so we figure 4 days to get there and 4 days to drive home. We will be actually there for a full week. If we decide to stay longer we can. The guy who is subbing for my husband says all we have to do is call and he will take over for as long as hubby needs.

the room is filled with rainbows

zasu loves the sun...scooter not so much

this morning when i opened the front door

feezing but sunny

Today is a beautiful sunny day here but still cold. I went and filled up the feeders and within a few minutes the chickadees were there and the nuthatch and sparrows. I have been a little lazy about filling the feeders because of the cold but that is when they should be full. I dont know how they know but they sure appear quickly.

snowy january

Today is a beautiful, crisp, sunny winter day. It has been cloudy and snowy for the past 4 days. 4 days of soft gentle falling snow.  Not the best to be driving in but makes everything magical. I love the days when it is just falling softly and covers the trees with puffs of white cotton.  A couple of days before the snow fell I noticed 2 little friends looking for food. I imagine they can sense when it is going to snow so they have to fill their tummies to last through the snow. Zazu noticed them and I think she would have loved to get out there and see what they were doing on "her" property.

grandson

Well, school has started again and I have spend the day taking Christmas stuff down and carrying it into the basement. Last night we spent a nice quiet evening after having my 6 yr. old stepgrandson over for 2 nights. Man, is he busy little guy. Poor grandpa is exhausted. We did everything grandparents are supposed to do. Watched about 6 movies over the 2 days, ate junk food, and grandpa played and made forts with him in the rec room. They had a ball. I did quiet things with him because there were times when he needed to chill out, or maybe it was Grandpa that needed the rest.
They made forts, put Lego together, shoveled outside, played at the playground and looked at his collection of hockey cards.

But it is nice to have the quiet again.

new year

Is it just me or do the years go by faster the older you get. 2010 started out just as an ordinary year. But turned sad towards the end but also wonderful at the same day. The sadness was losing mom, (baba) on Sept. 23 but the joyful news was learning about the coming of my new grandbaby in May. Christmas was a tough one this year because mom wasn`t here. She wasn`t able to leave the nursing home for the past 2 years but I still knew we could go and visit her on Christmas Day. She still remembered me even though that horrible Alzheimers had taken over her memory. My hubby and I were talking about that at lunch today...how lucky I was that she still remembered my name.
So now I have the birth to look forward to in May. Mom is watching over the baby`s mom and she will be ecstatic to know she is going to be a great grandma.(baba).
Our Christmas was wonderful...my stepkids and step grandkids joined my kids at my son`s house...it was rowdy and noisy and beautiful. I just watched as everyone opened presents and laughed and joked.

the little one loves my daughter.

The little one calls me grandma. :)
It was the best watching the two little boys opening their stockings and comparing. Cute, cute, cute.
