first snow

The weather has been beautiful until last night. We knew it was coming but kept hoping it would delay just a little bit longer. Now that soft white stuff is here and I think it will stay around. Today I had to go to city to substitute and the drive was slow. But I got to work safely.  Only one time as I was coming around a curve and my car took on a mind of its own and started to slide ever so slowly towards the ditch. Luckily I got it back on track when my tires hit those ridgy things on the shoulder that make a lot of bumpy noise.
Still it was a little scary...you can lose control real fast.
My hubby swept my car off for me today...isnt he wonderful? He is also making some homemade soup today so supper will be ready when I get home..Friday is my NO COOKING SUPPER night,.

painting

We have a new "winter" project. I just hope it doesn't take as long as last year's winter project. Last winter my hubby redid the ensuite. This year I want our bedroom repainted and redecorated. I am going today to try and pick out some wallpaper. I would like a feature wall, just as you walk into the bedroom to be wallpapered, (blues and browns, or greens and browns). Brown walls, new lamps, new ceiling fixture and new carpet. Also, new closet doors and molding all around (white). Hubby has emptied the closet and ripped most of the baseboards off and the ceiling light is off.  I am excited about it. Time to go shopping.

Remembrance Day

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields."
- John McCrae

Today is a grey, cold solemn day here in Manitoba.
The perfect kind of sombre day to sit and remember all our fallen soldiers who gave their lives for our country, so we could have the freedom to live a life in relative peace, far from the bombs of countries at war.
Remembrance DayRemembrance Day is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War.

It is also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918.

Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.

In Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, it is declared as an official holiday.

In Bermuda, which sent the first colonial volunteer unit to the Western Front in 1915, and which had more people per capita in uniform during the Second World War than any other part of the Empire.

In Canada, This Day is declared as an federal holiday

sick

It seems like we have been sick forever. I had been bragging about how I wasnt sick for 2-3 years. Hubby has been sick with a terrible cold a couple of times since we moved out here to the country. Well, guess what? I must stop bragging, never again will I brag about not being sick. Right now we have been sick with a terrible cold for what seems like months and months. Cant sleep because I get all plugged up, cant do anything because I just feel yucky...when will it go away!!!

sunrise

The sunrise this morning was spectacular!!  I just couldnt stop taking pictures of it. As I was taking the pictures I could hear the geese on the pond close to us. A perfect late fall day. Looks like it is going to be another amazing day.

grandma

What can I say? My little stepson is calling me grandma.  We went to his 3rd birthday party and had a great evening. He is the cutest little boy and I just love him. As we were playing he started calling me Grandma and I was just thrilled.
